Cultivate Food Rescue Solar Carport

Cultivate partnered with K2 to turn unused space into a solar carport that lowers energy costs and generates clean power. The result is a high-performing system that saves money, supports sustainability, and adds practical value with covered parking—all in one smart solution.

Cultivate set out to reduce electricity costs while generating clean, renewable energy through a solar carport installation. The result is one of the largest solar carport projects in South Bend. The 201.8 kW-DC / 164.2 kW-AC system consists of 351 solar modules and produces approximately 252 MWh of clean electricity annually. In addition to delivering meaningful long-term utility savings, the project enhances the site by providing covered parking while maximizing unused space for energy production. Environmentally, the system offsets an estimated 222 metric tons of CO₂ each year, equivalent to removing 52 vehicles from the road, powering 38 homes annually, or providing enough energy to charge more than 13.6 million smartphones. This project demonstrates how solar carport infrastructure can deliver financial performance, sustainability impact, and functional site improvements simultaneously.

The Opportunity

Cultivate had a goal of reducing their cost of electricity while also providing clean renewable energy from a solar carport structure.

The Solution

K2 worked closely with Cultivate to design, engineer, and construct the solar carport.
